951 The Bull Sports Report (2/6)

In a tournament heard right here on 951 The Bull on Saturday, the New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team hosted a Class 2A Sectional Tournament that also featured North Fayette Valley.  New Hampton’s grapplers had a good showing as they finished the meet with 251.5 points which gave them the team title.  They will wrestle in the Regional Duals tomorrow night in New Hampton with their first match against Osage.  Individually, the Chickasaws had six champions and two runner-ups which gives them eight total through to the District Meet.  Dylan Robinson at 106, Michael Millage at 126, Noah Fye at 132, Keaton Geerts at 138, Ryan Gorman at 160 and Noah Glaser at 170 were the champions and Mason Cleveland at 113 and Noah Hopp at 220 were the runner-ups.  North Fayette Valley was able to send three to the District Tournament as Jordan Baumler at 220 and Ethan Lape at 285 were sectional champs and Gunnar Rodgers at 120 was a runner-up.  These 11 local wrestlers will compete this Saturday in Decorah.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husk wrestling team also hosted a Sectional Tournament on Saturday.  Nashua was able to earn two individual District berths as Brock Dietz at 106 and Jakob Whittinger at 113 were both Sectional champions.  These two Husky wrestlers will compete this Saturday in Lake Mills.

The Turkey Valley, Sumner-Fredericksburg and South Winneshiek wrestling teams were in Postville on Saturday for their Class 1A Sectional meet.  South Winn finished with 203 teams points and a second place finish which qualified them for the Regional Dual tomorrow night at Don Bosco.  Individually, Turkey Valley did not have a District qualifier.  Sumner-Fred will be sending five wrestlers to this Saturday’s Districts as Karsen Seehase at 160 and Bodie Garnier at 182 were Sectional champions and Brett Meyer at 120, Collyn Chipera at 195 and Brock Meyer at 220 were runner-ups.  South Winn will be sending a whopping ten wrestlers to Districts as Manning Kubousek at 195 and Jackson Lukes at 285 were champions and Felicity Taylor at 106, Gabe Sadler at 113, Logan Schnuelle at 126, Tayton Bullerman at 132, Jacob Ling at 138, Rodney Schwartzhoff at 145, Gabe Kipp at 170 and Lane Schnuelle at 182 were all runner-ups.  These local qualifiers will wrestle in the District Tournament this Saturday at Starmont.

In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull on Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was at home for a Northeast Iowa Conference game against Oelwein.  The Chickasaws shot out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter and they were able to cruise to a 74-64 win.  Zach Wemark led four Chickasaws in double figures as he had 20 points, Jake Zwanziger had 19, Keagan John had 16 and Tristan Sweitzer had 13.  New Hampton’s boys are now 10-8 overall this season and they improved to 6-4 in the NEIC.  They will be back in action tonight at home against Crestwood with tip-off scheduled for around 7:45.

The New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team was on the road on Friday night as they were in Northeast Iowa Conference play against Oelwein.  The New Hampton girls won rather easily as they beat the Huskies by a final score of 70-49.  Lexi Rasmussen had 14 points to lead the Chickasaws, Isabel Leichtman and Darian Wegner had 13 and Lauren Frerichs had 10.  The New Hampton girls are now 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the NEIC.  They will be at Crestwood tonight and you can tune into that game right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pre-game at about 7:30 and tip-off is scheduled for around 7:45.
