In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was at home taking on Decorah in a Northeast Iowa Conference match-up. The game was tied at 49 heading into the fourth quarter, but New Hampton pulled away in the final frame and won the game 70-57. Jake Zwanziger had 28 points to lead the Chickasaws and Tristan Sweitzer added 21. The New Hampton boys are now 9-8 overall and 5-4 in the NEIC. They will be in action again tonight at home against Oelwein and you can tune into that game right here on The Bull. Pre-game will be at 7:30 and tip-off is scheduled for 7:45.
The New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team was in Decorah for a Northeast Iowa Conference game against the Vikings. The game was tied after the first, second and third quarters, but the Chickasaw girls dominated the fourth quarter and came away with a 52-42 win. Isabel Leichtman had 19 points to lead New Hampton and Lexi Rasmussen had 11. The Chickasaw girls improve to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in the NEIC. They will play a conference game again tonight at Oelwein. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
Other area basketball games on the schedule tonight include the Turkey Valley Trojan girls and boys will be at Kee High for an Upper Iowa Conference double-header. The Trojan girls come in with an overall record of 15-2 and they are 12-0 in the conference while Kee’s girls are 13-3 and 10-2. The Turkey Valley boys are 12-6 overall and 10-3 in the UIC while the Kee High boys are 4-13 and 4-10. The girls game will be played first at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.
The South Winneshiek girls and boys basketball teams will also be on the road tonight for an Upper Iowa Conference double-header as they will travel to Edgewood-Colesburg. The Warrior girls are 2-17 overall and 2-10 in conference play while the Edgewood girls are 7-12 and 5-9. The South Winn boys are 4-14 overall and 3-10 in the UIC while Edgewood’s boys are 12-5 and 8-3. The girls game will tip-off at around 6:15 and the boys game will get started at around 7:30.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association will hold Sectional Wrestling Meets all over the State tomorrow. The top two individuals in each weight class at tomorrow’s tournaments will qualify for the District Meets next Saturday. The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team will host a Sectional Meet tomorrow that will feature Crestwood, Decorah, North Fayette Valley, Oelwein and Waukon. You can tune into this meet right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pre-meet at 11:30 and the first matches will begin at noon.
Nashua-Plainfield will host a Class 1A Sectional tomorrow and will have Central Springs, Newman Catholic, North Butler, Northwood-Kensett, Riceville, Rockford and Saint Ansgar attending. The meet start time is set for noon.
The Turkey Valley, Sumner-Fredericksburg, and South Winneshiek wrestling teams will be in Postville tomorrow for their Sectional Tournament. That tournament is also set to start at noon.
