In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was at Denver for a non-conference battle. The Chickasaws held a slim three point lead at halftime, but were able to extend that lead in the second half and they walked away with a 72-56 win. Tristan Sweitzer led the Chickasaws with 20 points, Jake Zwanziger had 17 and Keegan John finished with 12 points. The New Hampton boys were also in action on Saturday as they traveled to Monona for a non-conference tilt against MFL-Mar-Mac. The Chickasaws found themselves with an 18 point deficit heading into the fourth quarter. New Hampton was able to score 33 points in the final frame, but they still came up short as they lost by a final score of 86-79. Four Chickasaws reached double-digit scoring numbers as Sweitzer led the way again and finished with 23 points, Zach Wemark had 19, John had 16 and Zach Heying had 12 points. The Chickasaws boys are now 6-6 overall this season and they will be in action again tomorrow at home against Waverly-Shell Rock.
Also in a game heard right here on 951 The Bull Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team also took on Denver in non-conference action on the road. The Chickasaw girls took control early and won the game 51-41. Lexi Rasmussen led New Hampton with 18 points and Isabel Leichtman finished with 16 points on the night. The New Hampton girls were also in action on Saturday as they hosted Cedar Falls. The Tigers overmatched the Chickasaws as the New Hampton girls lost 60-33. Leichtman had 11 points in that game to lead the Chickasaws. New Hampton’s girls are now 9-4 overall this season and they will be at home tomorrow night against Waverly-Shell Rock.
The Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team was also on the road on Friday night for a Top of Iowa Conference tilt with Central Springs. The Husky girls lost the game 75-41 to fall to 2-12 overall and 1-10 in conference. The Nashua girls will be at Rockford tonight.
The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team was in Manly on Friday night for a Top of Iowa Conference game against Central Springs. The Huskies led the entire game and won it by a final score of 57-30. Isaac Chambers led Nashua with 19 points and Dayton Hansen finished with 14 points for the Huskies, The Nashua boys are now 5-8 overall and they move to 4-7 in conference play. They will return to action tonight at Rockford.
The Turkey Valley Trojan boys basketball team hosted West Central Maynard on Friday night in Upper Iowa Conference action. The Trojan boys dominated the game in route to a 69-29 win. Ethan Leibold led the Trojans with 18 points and Levi Izer finished with 10 points. The Turkey Valley boys are now 9-6 overall and they improve to 7-3 in the conference. The Trojan boys will play again tomorrow night at Central Elkader.
The Turkey Valley Trojan girls basketball team also hosted West Central Maynard in Upper Iowa Conference action on Friday night. Like the boys, the Trojan girls were dominant in their game and won it 64-15. Shelby Reicks had 17 points to lead Turkey Valley, Kayla Gebel had 14 points and Morgen Kuennen was also in double figures as she finished with 10 points. The Trojan girls are now 13-2 overall and they improve to 10-0 in conference play. They will be at Central Elkader tomorrow night for their next game.
And finally today, Charles City hosted the Northeast Iowa Elk’s Hoop Shoot yesterday. Dylan Zwanziger of New Hampton made 21 out of 25 free throws to advance to the State Hoop Shoot in the 10-11 year old division. Dylan will now compete at the State Shoot in Grinell on February 4th.
