951 The Bull Sports Report (12/21)

In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was in Charles City for a Northeast Iowa Conference match-up with the Comets.  New Hampton fell behind early and trailed 17-10 after the first quarter.  The Chickasaws would close the gap to 29-24 at halftime, but Charles City pulled away in the second half and New Hampton lost the game 78-64.  Tristan Schweitzer had 15 points to lead New Hampton and Tyler Rentschler and Zach Wemark each had 13 for the Chickasaws.  The New Hampton boys fall to 2-4 overall this season and they are 0-2 in the NEIC.  They will next be in action on January 3rd at Crestwood.

The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team had a dominating performance last night in Humboldt as the went 3-0 at the quadrangular.  The Chickasaws defeated Alta-Aurelia and Humboldt 69-6 and beat Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 63-13.  The three dual meet wins gives the New Hampton grapplers an overall record of 13-2.  Next up for the Chickasaws will be a January fifth meeting in Waverly.

The New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team played at Luther College last night in non-conference action against Mable Canton.  After falling behind 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Chickasaws took the lead early in the second quarter and never trailed again as they walked away with a 52-39 win.  Isabel Leichtman had 15 points to lead New Hampton and Lexi Rasmussen was also in double figures as she finished with 10 points.  The Chickasaw girls improve to 6-2 overall this season and they will be in action again on January 3rd at home against Crestwood.

The North Butler Bearcats boys basketball team was able to beat Nashua-Plainfield last night in a Top of Iowa Conference game.  The final score was 56-35.  The Bearcat boys improve to 3-4 overall and they even up their conference record at 3-3.  Nashua’s boys drop to 2-5 overall and they are now 2-4 in the conference.  The Husky boys will play again tomorrow night at home against Riceville while North Butler will not have a game again until January 3rd.

The Turkey Valley Trojan boys basketball team was in Monona last night for an Upper Iowa contest against MFL-Mar-Mac.  The Trojans were defeated by a final score of 63-57.  The Turkey Valley boys are now 6-3 overall and they drop to 5-1 in the UIC.  The Trojan boys will host South Winn tomorrow night.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar boys basketball team was at home last night for a North Iowa Cedar League contest against Aplington-Parkersburg.  The game started rough for the Cougars as they fell behind 28-2 after the first quarter and lost the game by a final score of 83-32.  Trevor Wurzer led Sumner-Fred with nine points as the Cougars fall to 0-5 overall and in the NICL.  They will look to get into the win column tomorrow night at Clayton Ridge.

The Sumner-Frederickburg Cougar girls basketball team found themselves in a defensive battle last night at home againt Aplington-Parkersburg.  A total of 19 points was scored between the two teams the entire second half, but Sumner-Fred found themselves on the right side of a 30-25 final score.  The win gives the Cougar girls an overall record of 7-1 and they move to 6-1 in North Iowa Cedar League play.  They will next be in action after the first of the year.
