Head on crash on Highway 18 injures 4

Charles City Iowa – The Iowa State Patrol says a head on collision on Highway 18 west of Charles City injured 4 people on Tuesday afternoon at about 4:50pm.

The report states that a 2007 Buick Terraza operated by 44 year old Anthony Schmitz of Ionia was traveling west on Highway 18 near Commercial Avenue when it crossed the center line striking a 2016 GMC Denali driven by 52 year old Heather Meyer of Bassett who was heading east.

Anthony Schmitz along with a passenger in his vehicle, 11 year old Mary Jane Schmitz were transported via helicopter to Mayo Clinic. Another passenger, 10 year old Miley Schmitz were taken to Floyd County Medical Center via AMR Ambulance. Meyer was transferred to Mayo Clinic as well by Mercy Air Med.

The report doesn’t list the extent of any injuries.

Agencies assisting at the scene included the Charles City Police and Fire, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance and Iowa State Patrol.
