One injured after hitting train car in Charles City

Charles City, Iowa – The Charles City Police Department responded to a vehicle colliding with a train car at the E Street crossing near 13th Avenue at 7:33am Tuesday.

A 1999 Dodge being operated by 38 year old William Wilson of Charles City was northbound on E Street and struck the side of a Kershaw brush cutter train which was being operated for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as it crossed the street.

Police say the crossing arms and lights did not activate and the impact derailed the train car.

One injury was reported as a result of the collision but was unknown if it was the driver of the vehicle or the operator of the brush cutter.

Total damage is estimated at $7,000.
