Waukon Man Jailed After Police Chase

Waukon, Iowa – A police chase on Sunday landed a Waukon man in jail.

35 year old Leslie Dean Ashbacher, Jr. was arrested and charged with eluding an officer, reckless and careless driving and several other traffic violations.

The incident started around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday when Waukon police officers were near an intersection of West Main Street and Spring Avenue. According to officials, a car drove through a red light and turned onto Spring Avenue.

The car was clocked going 37 miles per hour in a 20 mile speed zone.

A short pursuit of the vehicle started with the driver of the vehicle striking a curb a high rate of speed. It then struck a parked car before the vehicle colled with a building before coming to a stop.

Shortly after the arrest officers were told that Ashbacher was threatening someone in an apartment building with a sword. The sword was seized from the vehicle.

Further charges are pending.
