Candidate Forums Set for Charles City School Board, City Council Elections

Public forums have been set featuring the candidates for the Charles City School Board and City Council elections.

The Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will give voters an opportunity to meet and hear from candidates for the Charles City School Board of Education on Wednesday, October 11th. There are two available seats, with challengers Bruce Koebrick and Dara Jaeger running along with incumbent Pat Rottinghaus who is running for re-election. Current Board member Janiece Bergland has decided not to run again.

On Thursday, October 12th, the spotlight shifts to the Charles City City Council election, where six candidates are seeking three available seats. Incumbents Phoebe Pittman, Keith Starr and Phillip Knighten are seeking re-election, and are joined on the ballot by Patsy Beaver, Joanne Robinson and Joshua Neupert.

Forums both nights will begin at 7 pm at the Charles City Senior Center.

The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates in advance, and will also have an opportunity to submit written questions for consideration during the first part of each forum. You will not be able to ask questions directly to the candidates.

A review panel will select from the submitted questions to be asked of the candidates based on appropriateness, fairness and to avoid duplication.

Questions can be submitted in advance at [email protected].
