The derecho or “inland hurricane” that hit Iowa this month, reportedly destroyed 43% of the state’s crops and left many homeless and displaced. The Charles City Rotary Club, who met for their regular meeting on Monday, quickly decided to lend a hand.
Former President Kay Winkelman says immediately the club knew it needed to do something to help.
The club is planning to collect a trailers worth of supplies and trucking it to Cedar Rapids on Friday. The trailer will be located at the south end of the Hy-Vee Parking lot in Charles City and will be there from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Volunteers are needed for the trailer and delivery.
