Charles City FFA harvesting honey to donate to local food bank

The FFA are busy as bees during the school year and summer. And at the Floyd County Fairgrounds Jim Lundberg, the FFA teacher at the Charles City High School, is harvesting honey with his students this summer. FFA vice president and 2020 Comet graduate Lauren Connell says when they get the honey from the bees, they will be donating it to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

Connell expects the honey to be ready to be harvested in the fall – at which point Lundberg and the students will give it to the food bank.

Connell explains that the maintenance for the bee hives is pretty minimal and that the FFA don’t often check on them daily or even weekly. Though, some days the team will go check to make sure the hives are still standing.
