Bars reopen in Charles City; Comet Bowl to open June 1st

Today is the day! Bars, breweries, and wineries have the opportunity to reopen for business. Some Charles City bars have already publicly announced their doors as ‘open’ – some are yet to. As the week spins into the weekend this list will expand. As of now, The Pub on the Cedar is back.

Manager Levi Klinkel says inside and patio seating will be available with social distancing in place.

The bar portion of the restaurant has been open for a couple of days now. Klinkel doesn’t think they will have an issue upholding social distancing protocols with drunk patrons anytime soon.

A couple blocks away, Charles City’s brewery is planning on sitting out for a bit longer.

A Facebook post from May 26th reads:

“Hey all, as I’m sure you’re all aware, last week the governor announced that we would be able to open at 50% capacity this coming Thursday, May 28th. However, we have decided that we are not going to open yet. We will continue to do our to-go orders. We will be stopping our delivery service as well. We want to thank you all for your continued support and know that we appreciate you so much and we wouldn’t be here without you all!
We can’t wait until we are pouring pints for everyone!
Cheers!”

Gov. Reynolds also green lit bowling alleys to reopen on June 1st. Mark Barry, owner of the Comet Bowl in Charles City, says the restaurant and bar portion will open the same day as the alley – June 1st. This will come with restrictions of course:

Barry says the sanitizing can get a bit tricky while bowling.

Bars and restaurants all over the state will continue reopening over the next couple of weeks and KCHANews will keep the community up to date on what transpires.
