Charles City superintendent talks COVID-19 possibly affecting fall school year

At Monday’s Zoom board meeting, Superintendent of Charles City Schools Mike Fisher came to a conclusion that it is totally possible that this pandemic resurfaces in the fall.

This opens up new needs for innovation. Fisher believes Zoom classes might be a big part of future school years at the Charles City school district – on snow days or COVID-19 cancellations. However, he doesn’t know if it is realistic to ask their staff to lecture for hours online.

Fisher says online learning can tend to overshadow ‘actual learning’ and hopes to find a way to avoid watering-down the students learning.

The school board is going to continue to flesh out how to avoid a ‘Plan B’ (heavy online learning for the students) as the summer and fall start to slide closer.
