Charles City Lion’s Club holding contest to create official Charles City flag

Local Charles City enthusiast and historian Jeff Sisson in conjunction with the Lions Club, and many other organizations, is putting out a formal request for locals to help design the official flag of Charles City. The contest starts on April 1st and will run through September 30th, with the winning entry taking home $250.

Sisson believes this will give households things to do while social distancing.

2021 is the 100th year anniversary of the Lions Club in Charles City and this contest will be a way to commemorate that fact. If made, the flag would display in Central Park alongside the United States flag and the Iowa flag.

The price of contest entry is $5 (paid to the Charles City Community Revitalization) and anybody with the inclination to participate has the opportunity. To enter, send a PDF of the design to info@charlescitychamber.com.

Each entry should include $5, name, address, phone number, and a description of what the flag signifies.

A panel of judges will meet on October 8th and scour the entries – picking 5 finalists.

Then, a community vote will be held at the Community Revitalization Office between October 19th and the 23rd.

After the votes are tallied, a winner will be announced on October 28th.
