The Charles City High School volleyball team has been without a captain for some time now. Madeline Fank, the former coach, resigned effective November of 2019 after leading the team to a 19-26 record – a season junior Comet Rachel Chambers thought should have gone better.
The school system didn’t look far off the coast to secure their new coach as Hailey Brown, an 8-year coaching veteran, was just named the head coach of the team pending board approval.
Brown is currently a school counselor at the high school and started in 2019.
She has coached club teams in Starmont, IA, and Tomah, WI. She currently leads the 5th – 12th grade camps and in her past, she coached for Tomah Middle School and Tomah High School.
Brown said this about the position: “I’m very excited to be named the head volleyball coach for Charles City Community Schools. My focus will be sharing my knowledge and passion for the game with our athletes. It’s important to me that my players know being a driven student-athlete looks like hard work on and off the court. I want to empower students to work together to accomplish a similar goal through skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.”
Brown’s will soon be choosing a new assistant coach for the volleyball program.
Looking into her senior year, Chambers believes the team has the firepower to compete.
