Snow removal blamed for trailer park explosion

New Hampton, Iowa -An explosion in the Parkview Trailer Park in New Hampton Wednesday afternoon caused significant damage to a residence, but luckily no one was injured.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call just after 8:30 a.m. reporting the explosion.  According to Chief Deputy Reed Palo, a person moving snow in the park caused damage to a gas meter at 2158 Parkview Circle, causing gas pressure to build up and cause an explosion inside the trailer. The residence was occupied at the time, but everyone inside made it out safely with no injuries.

Responding to the call was the New Hampton Fire department, Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, Chickasaw Ambulance, New Hampton Police and the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s office as well as Black Hills Energy who worked into the evening restoring gas to the area.
