The Score Sheet: New Hampton Still Winless, Other Area Teams Bring Offensive Explosions

New Hampton vs Charles City

The New Hampton Chickasaws are still searching for the first win of the 2018 season.  The Chickasaws fell to the Charles City Comets 21-9 Friday night.  New Hampton gave up over 300 yards on defense.  The Chickasaw offense only produced one first down in the second half.  Quarterback Wyatt Stochl threw five of 10 for 45 yards and rushed six times for -45 yards and the lone score.  Tristan Sweitzer rushed 12 times for 54 yards.

Nashua-Plainfield vs Belmond-Klemme

Nashua-Plainfield offense – cold.  The Huskies sputtered 44 yards in offense on Friday night after getting shut-out for the second straight game.  Belmond-Klemme bounced the Huskies 55-0. Junior quarterback Michael Stille threw eight for 16 and 31 years with four interceptions and he led all rushers with 13 yards on 12 attempts.

The Huskies travel to Mason City Newman Friday night.

Turkey Valley vs Gladbrook Reinbeck

The Turkey Valley Trojans are off to a fast start in 2018 with a week two 48-12 win over Gladbrook Reinbeck.  Dylan Eslbernd rushed for 109 yards on 18 touches for one score, Ethan Leibold added 54 yards and three scores and Eli Reicks added one touchdown and 59 yards.  Leibold passed five for nine for 77 yards no picks and one touchdown.

The Trojans are at Midland Friday.

Sumner-Fredericksburg vs South Winneshiek

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars are sporting a spotless 2018 record with a 44-8 performance over South Winneshiek.  Nine different Cougars ran the ball. Kelby Olson carried the load with 14 carries 150 yards and a trio of scores. Spencer Schmitz added a score off of 78 yards suhing.  Quarterback Brandon Meyer threw five of 10 for a pair of scores.

South Winn threw eight of 16 for 110 yards no scores and a pair of interceptions. South Winn hosts Postville Friday and the Cougars travel to North Fayette Valley Friday.

North Fayette Valley vs Union

The North Fayette Valley Tiger-Hawks lost their second tight game in as many, losing to Union Community 22-15. Brooks Hovden passed 8 for 21 for 93 yards and an interception.  Gunner Rodgers and Mach Whelan both added score and combined for a buck thirty two on the ground.

Iowa vs Northern Illinois
The Iowa Hawkeye football team is 1-0 after thumping Northern Illinois 33-7 Saturday afternoon.  Hawkeye Quarterback Nate Stanley completed 11 of 23 passing for 108 yards, one turnover and one interception.  Noah Fant caught the lone passing score in the third quarter for the Hawks. Toren Young led the Hawkeye ground game with 84 yards on eight touches for one touchdown.

Iowa hosts Iowa State State in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Game.

Iowa State vs South Dakota State

Iowa State’s season opener against South Dakota State was cancelled due to weather.

Northern Iowa vs Montana 

The Northern Iowa Panthers fell 26-23 to Montana on Saturday.  Panther quarterback Colton Howell completed 11 for 22 and 140 yards with one score.  Howell and Marcus Weymiller both added rushing touchdowns. Northern Illinois has a week off to prepare for the Iowa Hawkeyes next week.
