Clarksville, IA – A northeast Iowa resident is moving past the first round on the once popular television show, American Idol.
Maddie Poppe is known around Iowa for performing along RAGBRAI routes since 2014. She got her chance to strut her talents in front of a national audience on Sunday night. She did well enough, in fact, to book her ticket to the next round in Hollywood.
Poppe grew up as a fan of the show and was encouraged to audition by her father. She had originally tried out to be on The Voice, but none of the judges had selected her to be on their teams.
American Idol has produced some famous musicians since its first season in 2002. Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are all former winners of the show.
