951 The Bull Sports Report (2/27)

In a game heard on our sister station KCHA last night, the Charles City Comet boys basketball team was in Denver taking on Waverly-Shell Rock in a Class 3A Sub-State 2 Final.  It was a classic Charles City vs Waverly battle as it was close and physical throughout the game.  The Go-Hawks pushed their four-point lead at halftime to eight at the end of the third quarter and then hit thirteen free throws in the final minutes to take down the Comets 55-43. Jack Molstead had 14 points to lead Charles City, Mike Cranshaw had 12 and Cade Hemaseth had 11.  The Comet boys basketball team finishes their season with a record of 18-5.

The Iowa Hawkeye Men’s Basketball team is getting ready to take part in the Big Ten Tournament.  Iowa will have a first round match-up with Illinois tomorrow.  The Hawkeyes have lost in their first Big Ten tourney matchup each of the last four years but it’s not a pattern that concerns head coach Fran McCaffery.

Iowa came from 20 down to knock off Illinois earlier this season.

McCaffery says his team is excited for the opportunity that awaits.

Illinois provides challenges in the opening matchup for McCaffery.

Tip-off tomorrow is scheduled for 4:30 and you can tune in right here on 951 The Bull for all of the coverage starting with a pre-game at about 3:30.
