Bid Approved for Charley Western Bridge Demolition

Danger signs posted on the banks of the Cedar River upstream from unstable bridge

Charles City, IA – The Charley Western Bridge started crumbling last April. Years of flooding caused the deterioration of the structure. A winning bid was approved at the last City Council meeting.

The winning bid went to Lodge Construction with $267,910.40. Steve Diers, Charles City’s city administrator, says the demolition will start when the weather warms up.

Eight bids were turned in for the demolition.

This project had been delayed last year due to an endangered animal living in the area.
