22nd Annual Chili Cook-Off Set

Charles City, IA – Community Revitalization is hosting its annual Great Chili Cook-Off on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbus Club.

The Great Chili Cook-Off invites the public to come and sample the chili recipes of eight local “celebrity cooks,” voting for their favorite on the ballot found on the back of their ticket.

This year’s field features representatives from our “Hometown Hospitality” specialists. Carol Johnson is representing Floyd County Medical Center, Lorraine Winterink will step up to the stove for Red Cedar Lodge, Peggy Sweet will wield her spoon for the Comet Bowl, Chef Ted is competing for Hy-Vee, Dave Holschlag is representing Dave’s Restaurant, Levi Klinkel is stepping out from behind the bar to compete for The Pub on the Cedar, Jerri Dight will represent Dugan’s Restaurant and Lounge and Matt DeBoest representing Derailed.

Emily Garden, events coordinator with the Charles City Chamber, says how attendees get to vote.

Tickets for this year’s event are $6 each and available through the Community Development Office or at the door the day of the event. A limited number of tickets will be sold.

Admission will include samples of all eight chili recipes, crackers, drink and desserts compliments of the Comet Café high school students. Proceeds from the Chili Cook-Off will go to help support the Community Revitalization program.
