The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team was in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament in front of the home crowd on Saturday and you heard it right here on 951 The Bull. As they have been all season, the Chickasaws were dominant at the Sectional as they took first as a team and were able to send 12 of their 14 wrestlers to Districts. New Hampton finished the day with nine champions, Johnny Dreckman at 106 pounds, Carson Babcock at 120, Mason Cleveland at 126, Max Babcock at 132, Michael Blockus at 138, Noah Fye at 145, Cale Reicks at 160, Noah Glaser at 170, and Areon Day at 220. Clayton Taylor at 152, Evan Rosonke at 182 and Max Schwicerath at 195 also qualified with second place finishes. The Chickasaw wrestling team will host the Regional Duals tomorrow night and the District Qualifiers will compete this Saturday in Parkersburg.
The Nashua-Plainfield Husky wrestling team competed at their Class 1A Sectional Tournament in Clarksville. The Huskies will be sending four wrestlers to Districts as Brock Dietz was the champion at 106 pounds, Jakob Whitinger was the runner-up at 113, Tristan Brase finished second at 145 and Nathan Dettmer was the runner-up at 195 pounds. These four will wrestle at District this Saturday at Luther College in Decorah.
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar and South Winneshiek Warrior wrestling teams competed in their Class 1A Sectional Tournament in Sumner on Saturday. Sumner-Fred was able to get three wrestlers through to Districts as Brock Meyer was the champion at 195 and Brady Wilkinson and Steffan Weiland were the runners-up in their weight classes. South Winneshiek won the meet and will be sending nine through to Districts. Warrior Sectional Champions were Felicity Taylor at 106 pounds, Manning Kuboushek at 182 pounds, and Jackson Lukes at 285. The six runner-ups for South Winn were Gabe Sadler at 120 pounds, Zach Taylor at 132, Logan Schnuelle at 138, Tanner Tollefsrud at 152, Gabe Kipp at 195 pounds and Damon Meyer at 220. These wrestlers will also compete at the District Tournament at Luther College on Saturday and the Warrior team will compete in the Regional Duals tomorrow night.
In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team hosted Oelwein for Senior Night. The Chickasaw girls were able to come away with a 53-37 win and improve to 11-9 overall and 5-6 in the Northeast Iowa Conference. The New Hampton girls will be back in action tonight at home as they will host Crestwood. You can tune into this game right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pre-game at about 7:30 and tip-off will be around 7:45.
The New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was in Oelwein for their Northeast Iowa Conference match-up with the Huskies. It took overtime, but the Chickasaws were able to pick up a 61-60 win. The New Hampton boys are now 9-9 overall and they improve to 3-7 in the NEIC. They will be in Cresco tomorrow night for their next action.
