Influenza in Iowa

New Hampton, IA – Several Iowans have died from the influenza virus this season. This illness is not just spreading in Iowa. People all over the nation are being affected by influenza.

Hospitals all over the United States have seen more people admitted for this illness. Jenny Monteith, public relations coordinator at Mercy Medical Center, says more.

Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa has already put restrictions out for people with influenza-like symptoms. Mercy in New Hampton has not yet reached this stage, but they could soon.

There are ways to help prevent this from spreading the virus. Monteith provides some tips.

Trying to avoid places with a lot of germs is a good place to start in preventing this. A flu shot is the first line of defense against this illness.
