Mitchell County Selected for $20M Corn Stover Demonstration Plant

Osage, IA – Stover Ventures, LLC, has announced that Mitchell County has been selected as the site of its first demonstration plant, an estimated $20 million facility that is initially slated to create 15 jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin in second quarter of 2018. The Osage plant will be the first of several planned processing facilities.

Stover Ventures was formed in 2015 by Ag Ventures Alliance Cooperative of Mason City and Cellulose Sciences International of Madison to improve the economics of grain producers, dairy farmers and beef growers. Stover Ventures will produce a highly digestible feed product from excess corn stover. The high energy, high value forage is used in dairy cow and beef cattle diets and offers both economic and practical benefits.

Kevin Kolbet, President of Osage Development Corporation, agreed with Conway’s assessment.

Ag Ventures Alliance began investigating the opportunity of treating corn stover in early 2013 to enhance its nutritional value as ruminant livestock feed. By early 2015, Ag Ventures Alliance and Cellulose Sciences International, Inc. had formed Stover Ventures to commercialize CSI’s patented biomass treatment process for producing highly digestible feed products and high value nutraceuticals from agricultural residues.

More information regarding local investment opportunities will be forthcoming late fall through the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission.
