Funeral Services for Verle Henry Steere, 82, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Flucke officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene with Military Honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Verle Henry Steere was born May 2, 1934, in Coldwater Township, rural Greene, Butler County, Iowa to Albert William and Mabel (Martzahn) Steere and passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Valley View Care Center in Greene.
Verle attended Coldwater Township Country School and later attended Greene High School. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged.
Following his discharge from the service Verle farmed on a farm South West of Greene. His life was devoted to caring for the farm where he remained until his recent move to town.
He was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He was baptized on May 20, 1934 and confirmed on March 21, 1948. Verle was also a member of the Butler County Cattlemen Association. Verle loved to travel and greatly enjoyed raising and caring for his chickens.
Living family members include: two sisters: Lorene Wolf of Charles City and Bernice Wolf of Greene; 12 nieces and nephews; many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Hilda Michael; one brother, Maynard Steere.
