951 The Bull Sports Report (2/16)

The top-ranked New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team competed at the State Duals yesterday in Des Moines and you heard all matches right here on 951 The Bull.  After defeating Denver-Tripoli in the Quarter-Finals 51-23 and then beating Davenport Assumption 46-24 in the Semi-Finals, the Chickasaws squared off against second-ranked Solon in the Finals.  New Hampton would win seven out of nine matches in the middle of the dual and put it out of reach after Noah Hopp’s win by fall at 220 pounds.  The final score was 45-23.  The State Individual wrestling tournament begins today and we will have live hold-by-hold coverage of the Class 2A Meet.  The Big Guy and Tyler Boos will follow local wrestlers Michael Millage, Noah Fye, Keaton Geerts, Ryan Gorman, Noah Glaser, and Noah Hopp of New Hampton and North Fayette Valley’s Jordan Baumler and Ethan Lape.  Pre-meet is scheduled for 5:30 and the first matches are at 6pm.  951 The Bull will also have live updates of the area wrestlers competing in the Class 1A first round and first round consolations.  We will cover Karsen Seehase and Bodie Garnier of Sumner-Fredericksburg and South Winn’s Manning Kubousek.  The Class 1A session begins at 1:30.

The New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team saw their season come to a close last night as they lost to Crestwood 68-36 in a Class 3A Region 5 Semi-Final.  Isabel Leichtman led New Hampton with 10 points and Darian Wegner and Emma Nicholaisen each had six.  The Chickasaws finish their season with a record of 15-8.  The New Hampton girls basketball program says good-bye to six seniors as Wegner, Kayla Gilbert, Nicholaisen, Bethany Zenk, Lexi Rasmussen and Hunter Gerber all played their final game last night.

The New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team will begin their postseason tournament tonight with a Class 2A District 4 Semi-Final against North Fayette Valley.  The Chickasaw boys are 13-8 this season and enter tonight with a five-game winning streak while the Tiger-Hawks come in at 11-10.  The Chickasaws defeated North Fayette during the regular season back on December 19th by a final score of 73-44.  Tonight’s game will be played in Osage and you can listen in on live updates here on The Bull as The Big Guy will keep track of the score during the Class 2A State Wrestling broadcast.  The New Hampton boys will tip-off tonight at 6:30.

The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team will continue their postseason tournament tonight as they get set to take on Don Bosco at AGWSR High School.  The Husky boys are 7-15 coming into this game while the Dons are 20-1.  Tip-off this Class 1A District 5 Quarter-Final is scheduled for 6:30.

The Turkey Valley Trojan boys basketball team will be in Postville tonight for their Class 1A District 7 Quarter-Final against Kee High.  Turkey Valley comes in with a record of 13-8 while Kee High went 4-16 during the regular season.  The Trojans won by 13 points in both regular season meetings against Kee High.  Tip-off tonight will be at 6:30.

The South Winneshiek Warrior boys basketball team will continue their postseason tonight at Osage.  The Warriors will take on the Green Devils in a Class 2A District 4 Semi-Final.  South Winn enters with an overall record of 6-16 while Osage went 20-1 during the regular season.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
