951 The Bull Sports Report (2/7)

In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team was in Cresco taking on the third ranked Crestwood Cadets.  The Chickasaw girls had a tough time keeping up with Crestwood and dropped the game 76-47.  Darian Wegner and Emma Nicolaisen each had 12 points to lead the Chickasaws and Isabel Leichtman had seven.  The New Hampton girls fall to 14-7 overall and they now have a Northeast Iowa Conference record of 8-4.  They will wrap up their regular season at home on Saturday against North Fayette Valley.

The New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team picked up a big Northeast Iowa Conference win at home last night against Crestwood.  In a back-and-forth game, the Chickasaws were able to walk away with a 68-67 win.  Tristan Sweitzer led New Hampton with 19 points and Zach Wemark added 15.  With the win, the Chickasaw boys are now 11-8 overall this season and they improve to 7-4 in the NEIC.  They will be back in action on Thursday at home against Nashua-Plainfield.

The Saint Ansgar Saints boys basketball team picked up a win over Nashua-Plainfield last night at home in Top of Iowa Conference play.  They won the game by a final score of 68-47.  Dayten Hanson led Nashua with 18 points.  The Nashua-Plainfield boys are now 6-13 overall and 4-10 in the conference.  The Husky boys will be at home tonight as they get se to take on West Fork.

The Saint Ansgar Saints girls basketball team hosted Nashua-Plainfield last night in a Top of Iowa Conference game.  The Saints won the game by a final score of 47-34. Sierra Fisher led the Huskies with 17 points.  The Husky girls fall to 3-18 overall and they now have a conference record of 1-13.  The Nashua girls will host West Fork tonight.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar girls basketball team wrapped up their regular season last night with a win as they defeated Wapsie Valley 49-25 in North Iowa Cedar League play.  Ivy Hirsch led the Cougars with 11 points and Cassidy Pagel added 10.  The Sumner-Fred girls finish their season with a 17-4 overall record and their NICL record was 15-3.  They will now focus their attention on their Regional opener.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg boys basketball team lost their North Iowa Cedar League game against Wapsie Valley last night by a final score of 68-29.  The Cougar boys are now 5-14 overall and 3-13 in the NICL.  They will be in action again tonight at Union-LaPorte City.

The Turkey Valley and South Winneshiek girls and boys basketball teams will finish their regular seasons tonight with Upper Iowa Conference head-to-head match-ups.  The Trojan girls are 17-2 overall this season and have a UIC record of 15-0 while South Winn’s girls are 2-18 and 2-12.  The Turkey Valley boys are 13-7 overall this season and are 11-4 in league play while the Warrior boys are 4-16 and 3-11.  The girls game will tip-off at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will hold the Regional Duals tonight all over the state.  The top-ranked Chickasaw wrestling team will be at home for their Class 2A meet.  New Hampton will face-off with Osage at 6pm and if they win, will take on the winner of Clarion-Goldfield and Algona for the right to wrestle at the State Duals.  You can tune into the Chickasaws tonight right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pre-meet at about 5:30.

The South Winneshiek Warrior wrestling team will take part in a Class 1A Regional Dual tonight at Don Bosco.  The Warriors will be up against North Linn-Troy Mills at 6pm and if they win that, will face the winner of the top-ranked Dons and Lynnville-Sully with a State Duals berth on the line.
