In a match heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with a road contest against Charles City. The Chickasaws came out slow and dropped game one 25-15, but came back and won game 2 26-14 and game three 25-23 to take a 2-1 match advantage. The Chickasaws were unable to sustain the momentum however as Charles City took game four 25-11 and then won the fifth and deciding game 15-8 to hand New Hampton the 3-2 match loss. Jess Crooks led the Chickasaws with 13 kills on the night and Katherine Hemaseth added 11 while Karly Fitzgerald ended the night with 34 assists and as a team New Hampton had seven ace serves. The loss drops the Chickasaw volleyball overall record to 22-6 and they finish in third place in the Northeast Iowa Conference with a 4-2 record. New Hampton will next be in action this Saturday when they compete in the NEIC Tournament which will be held in Waverly.
New Hampton hosted the Northeast Iowa Conference boys and girls cross country meets last night at the New Hampton Country Club. In the boys race the Chickasaws were able to land two runners in the top fifteen giving them All-Conference honors. They were junior Jake Usher who finished in eighth place and freshman Nolan Usher who came in twelfth place. As a team the Chickasaws claimed sixth place with 121 team points. In the girls race, New Hampton was unable to get anybody in the top fifteen as their best finisher was freshman Olivia Burke who came in seventeenth. The Chickasaw girls took fifth place as a team with 153 team points. The New Hampton boys and girls cross country teams will now focus their attention on the District Meet which will be held next Thursday.
