School Bond Update

CHARLES CITY, IA – At Monday nights school board meeting the Charles City School Board heard additional information about a plan to construct a new middle school on the existing high school campus, as Matt Gillaspie of Piper Jaffray talked to the board about financing for the project. School Superintendant Dr Dan Cox said that the purpose was to explain the proposed costs more clearly:

The board voted July 22 to have BLDD Architects of Bloomington, Ill., make additional drawings of a design option for the construction of a new secondary campus, to include a new middle school and a high school addition to the east end of the current high school building. The proposal, favored overwhelmingly by the School Board at a previous meeting, would renovate the north wing of the current high school building and demolish 80 percent of the current structure. Cox said there were 4 scenarios presented and more information was requested:

Cox also said that the board wants to see additional information from the architect as to what the space will look like. The proposal would use land the school already owned and the cost was estimated at approx $38.8 million dollars. The School Board’s next regular meeting is Monday, Aug. 11.
