Iowa’s “Strut Your Pup” Challenge Kicks Off Today

AMES, Iowa – Live Healthy Iowa encourages you to enjoy the warmer weather and colorful sights of spring with your K-9 companion by joining the second annual Strut Your Pup Challenge. This physical activity challenge allows you and your pup to gain the benefits of moving more, together. The challenge kicks off today and there is still time to register.

The six-week challenge encourages adult Iowans to improve their health, and that of their dog, through increased amounts of walking and/or active play. Studies have shown that people who regularly walk dogs may benefit from lower blood pressure, have a trimmer waistline and suffer from fewer chronic diseases. Dogs are a great accountability partner; keeping you active and on schedule.

The $8 registration fee for the Strut Your Pup Challenge includes a collapsible water bowl, weekly email tips, a personal online tracking page, the opportunity to win prizes, a $5 discount off participation in Iowa State University’s SCAVMA Scamper 5k/10k run on April 26 and more.

The challenge is not limited to dog owners. Live Healthy Iowa encourages those interested to seek out volunteer opportunities with local shelters, or contact friends or neighbors who may have a loyal pet eager for activity.
