Man shot, killed in Iowa Falls standoff

Iowa Falls, IA (AP) — A man was shot and killed following a standoff in Iowa Falls Thursday, authorities reported.

Iowa State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Scott Bright said the shooting happened Thursday outside a private home. The man was shot by law enforcement.

Bright said authorities had been trying to talk to the man, who is accused of locking himself in his home and making threats via social media during the standoff.

The man at some point fired shots and authorities backed away from the home. He eventually came outside to the front porch and was shot.

Authorities have not released the man’s name.

The Iowa Falls Community School district had issued an advisory at 3 p.m. that school buses were routed away from the area due to a “potentially dangerous situation,” and parents with children walking home from school were advised police had blocked off the area.
