Floyd County Emergency Operating Center to Move Locations

CHARLES CITY- The Floyd County Emergency Operating Center will soon see a change of venue.  On Monday, Emergency Management Coordinator Michael Morlan spoke with county supervisors about moving the operating center from the Charles City Police Department to the county Courthouse.  Morlan says space constraints and differing policies in times of emergencies have created a need for a new location.

Currently, the operations center is located in the interview room of the Charles City Police Department. Supervisor Roy Schwickerath says the move to the courthouse makes sense.  He also commented that much of the equipment is out of date.

Equipment was purchased for the center in 2006 according to supervisors meeting minutes.  A second Emergency Operations Center is located at the Fossil and Prairie Center in Rockford.
